Pug Marich Baseball Field is located on the north side of the Phoenix College campus on the corner of 15th Avenue and Flower Street. The field was named after Martin “Pug” Marich, who was the Phoenix College baseball coach from 1961 to 1978. His teams were NJCAA champions in 1962 and 1965. One member of the 1965 team, Gary Gentry, went on to play in the Major Leagues and pitched for the 1969 World Champion New York Mets. PC also won a national championship in 1960. Marich was elected to the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame as a charter member. The field was named in his honor in April 1985.
