PC's Model UN Team Achieves Recognition

November 2010

Congratulations to our Phoenix College Model United Nations team and faculty advisor Dr. Albert Celoza. The team successfully represented Sierra Leone in the American Model United Nations International Conference held last week in Chicago. The delegation was awarded a certificate for its timely and comprehensive policy papers on various global issues including the world financial and economic crisis and its impact on development, conflict diamonds, and the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

The delegation sponsored resolutions which were voted by the assembly on the Elimination of All Forms of Sexual Violence in the Third (Human Rights) Committee and Nationality of Natural Persons in Relation to the Succession States in the Sixth (Legal) Committee.

The team consists of Ahmed Al Brich, Dana Beyers, Brian Dorman, Juan Carlos Espinoza, Justin French, Michael Grochocki, Juan Magana, Tyler Olsen, and Sherylyn Rasmussen. The delegates were selected from among the participants to the Fall PC Model UN Conference held in September.

In addition to the Fall Conference, Model UN hosted speaker Gillian Sorensen, former Undersecretary General of the United Nations on the PC campus in October.
