Web Tip: Spell Checking Your Work

December 12, 2012

Incorrect spellings can be embarrassing, or can simply make content on the Phoenix College website look unprofessional. In some cases, it may even lead to a misunderstanding.

Free, online spell-checking is just one click away. You don't even have to open a new window. It's built right into the web editing toolbar.

To spell-check a document before saving or publishing, just click the Spell Checker button (1) in the toolbar.

Incorrect text is underlined with a red squiggly line.

  • To view suggested spellings, click the misspelled word. A mini drop-down will appear with suggested spellings (2).
  • To fix the spelling, click the correct word. You can also ignore that particular word (Ignore Word), or ignore all occurrences of that word (Ignore All).

The little arrow next to the spell check button lets you change the language which is checked. This defaults to English, so changing the language is not necessary for most cases.
