Castro Play Debuts, More Dates Planned
The play based on the life, struggles and accomplishments of Gov. Raul H. Castro has now been seen across the state. American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Raul H. Castro began its statewide showings in Flagstaff, traveled down to Phoenix at the Playhouse on the Park, and had its final showings in Nogales at Nogales High School on Nov. 4, 2012. The former governor, who was in attendance of the final showing along with his wife Pat, fielded questions from the audience following the performance.
The play was written by playwright James E. Garcia, who also stars as Castro in the play which spans 60 years of the governor’s life. “His life is filled with major accomplishments worth writing about, but it’s really the power of his personality that makes this a compelling play,” said Garcia, in an interview with Nogales International. “His natural charisma aside, this is a man who always found a way to overcome virtually any obstacle that came his way. As such, he’s a great inspiration.”
Future showings of the play are currently in the works. For more information, please contact James E. Garcia at firstname.lastname@example.org.
