RCI Sponsors LGBT Workplace Inclusion Conference

January 24, 2014

Arizona is one of 29 states in the US where it is still legal to fire someone based on their sexual orientation. To help bring awareness to this issue, as well as offer advice to local businesses and organizations about creating an inclusive environment, ONE Community and the Human Rights Campaign came to Phoenix College to present the LGBT Workplace Inclusion Conference on January 17, 2104. The conference was sponsored in part by Phoenix College’s Raul H. Castro Institute.

The one-day conference brought together business leaders from across the Valley to learn best practices for making businesses an inclusive environment that, according to event organizers, will make businesses more competitive in the global marketplace.  Representatives from the city of Phoenix, Honeywell, Sears, Adelante Healthcare, and many others participated in the conference.

This wasn’t the first time that the Raul H. Castro Institute and Phoenix College partnered with ONE Community. During the opening comments, Angela Hughey, co-founder of ONE Community and Phoenix College alum, took a moment to recognize the partnership. “I cannot say enough about PC and the RCI,” said Hughey to the packed room. “If they didn’t believe in [ONE Community], we would not be here.”
