Three Football Alumni Sign with NFL Teams
The 2012 NFL draft was one that will stand out for Phoenix College as three Phoenix College Football Alumni signed with NFL teams. The three athletes were Tevita Finau, Jake Muasau, and Marquese Wheaton.
Tevita Finau played two seasons for the Phoenix College and was a major contributor on defense. Finau was named a Second Team NJCAA All-American in 2007, Region Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, and was also named to the WSFL Defensive Second Team in 2008. After a successful senior season at Utah he now signs with the Arizona Cardinals with hopes to continue his success at the professional level.
Jake Muasau was a strong defensive asset for the Phoenix College Bears in his two seasons under Land Jacobsen. He transferred to Georgia State in their inaugural year as a football team. In his time there he was named to the FCS All-Independent Team by College Sports Madness, voted Most Valuable Defensive Player by teammates in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He is now GSU’s career leader in tackles for loss and interceptions. Musau has signed with the New York Giants.
Marquese Wheaton played alongside Jake for two years as a cornerback for the Bears. In his first season with the Bears he was chosen to the All-Conference Second Team and continued his success at the Southern Mississippi as he received Fourth Team All-American Honors. He also helped lead Southern Mississippi to a number 21 national ranking and a 12-2 overall record. Wheaton continues his football career as he signs with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
