Bears’ sophomore shooting guard named 2nd Team All-Region I Division II, 3rd Team All-ACCAC

Phoenix, Arizona – February 24, 2014 -- Phoenix College is proud to announce that PC Women’s Basketball player Daesha Jackson (DAY-shuh) has been named to both the postseason All-ACCAC & All-Region I Division II teams.  Jackson was named to the All-Region I Division II’s 2nd Team while earning 3rd Team honors on the All-ACCAC squad.  The announcement comes following the conclusion of the ACCAC postseason coaches’ meetings at Glendale Community College.

With nearly a completely new starting lineup from last year’s 2013 Region I Semifinalist team, it wasn’t a secret to most opposing coaches that Jackson was going to be a major part of the Bears’ offensive focus.  That forced the sophomore guard to alter her own game plan several times this season, but in the end, Jackson was easily the team’s most consistent scorer.  In fact, the Alhambra High School alum was the Bears’ leading scorer in exactly half of the 30 games they took the court for in 2013-14.  Jackson also had nine games where she scored 20 points or more, including her career-high of 24 points that she poured in February 1st against Tohono O’odham in Topawa-a game that she actually came off the bench to spark the team to victory.  When the Bears looked for three-point shooting, they looked Jackson’s way, and her shooting percentage of 29.9% not only led the squad but also placed her among the top 20 shooters in the conference.  She was also as steady as anyone from the free throw line, hitting 76.1% of her shots from the line, placing her 6th-best in the ACCAC in that category.

The Bears finished the 2013-14 women’s basketball campaign with an overall record of 10 wins and 20 losses, and wound up narrowly missing the Region I Division II Playoffs with a 6-16 record in conference play.
