Bears’ 2014 Football schedule released

July 10, 2014

Daniels’ new-look squad to open ’14 campaign at home vs. Pima August 23rd

Phoenix, Arizona – July 10, 2014 -- Phoenix College has announced that the 2014 PC Football schedule has been released, featuring four home games and four road as part of their regular season schedule.  For the second straight year, the Bears’ regular season schedule will open with Western States Football League play immediately in late August, with the regular season coming to a close in mid-October to accommodate the WSFL’s second year of playoffs.  The schedule was released just under a month before the start of preseason football drills at the college, and a little over seven months since the Bears made history by taking part in the first-ever WSFL Playoff game last October.

It will truly be a new-look squad-from top to bottom-that fills the home sideline when the Bears open up the 2014 campaign against Pima Community College August 23rdat Hogan Field at Hoy Stadium.  That will start with the head coach, who will finally have the chance to direct the program in his own image, since after spending the past two seasons as the interim head coach, Jerome Daniels was named the full-time head coach of the program last December.  Since that moment, Daniels has overhauled nearly every part of the 2013 roster.  He’s added seven new members to his coaching staff, and sports just 11 returning full-time or part-time starters on the field.

Once the Bears break the seal on their home schedule against the Aztecs August 23rd, they’ll head out on the road for the next two weeks against a pair of 2013 NJCAA bowl participants, El Toro Bowl victor New Mexico Military Institute (August 30th), and 2013 WSFL Championship runner-up (and C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas bowl participant) Mesa (September 6th).  After their bye week, the Bears will come back home for a huge test against El Toro Bowl runnerup Arizona Western on September 20th before making their last out-of-state road trip the next weekend to Ephraim, Utah-home of the Snow Badgers.

The Bears will have the benefit of hosting two of their final three regular season games, and each will have a very special significance.  Saturday, October 4th, the Bears will host Eastern Arizona College on Homecoming Night, with Homecoming festivities being held on campus all week long, culminating with the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen at halftime of Saturday’s game.  Then after finishing the road side of their regular season schedule October 11th by traveling across town to face defending WSFL Champion Scottsdale, the Bears finish out the regular season by hosting their archrivals (and the team they ended the 2013 season against in the WSFL Playoffs), the Glendale Gauchos, on Saturday, October 18th.  That night will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bears’ 1964 NJCAA Champion Football team, with special activities throughout the game and at halftime.  After the regular season, the Bears will play at least one game in the WSFL Playoff Tournament, which will run from October 25th through the crowning of its 2014 champion in Eagar on November 8th.

Every Bears’ home game will be played at the Bears’ home field, Hogan Field at Hoy Stadium on the Phoenix College campus (1202 West Thomas Road in Phoenix).  Kickoff for all Bears’ regular season games is scheduled for 7PM with the exception of the road games at NMMI (6PM Arizona time) and Snow (11AM Arizona time).
