Phoenix College’s 97th-annual Commencement Ceremony, honoring the achievements of the Class of 2019, will take place on May 10, 2019.
We are incredibly excited to announce that Phoenix College alumna and chart-topping artist, Cece Peniston will be the keynote speaker for this year’s commencement.
Cecilia "Cece" Peniston graduated from Phoenix College in 1991. She started singing at church when she was young and was cast in a school musical in the 6th grade. Cece was crowned Miss Black Arizona in 1989. She graduated from Phoenix College in 1991 and wrote the words of her international hit “Finally” while attending PC.
In the early 1990s, Cece Peniston was one of the most successful dance club artists in the history of U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Music, scoring five number-one hits within three years. Her signature song “Finally” (#5 in the Hot 100 and #2 in UK Top 75) became one of the biggest dance singles, selling three million copies worldwide. In December 2016, Billboard Magazine listed Cece among the 100 Top Dance Club Artists of all time. In addition, Cece has performed for Aretha Frankin, Pope John Paul II, former president Bill Clinton, and was the first foreign female entertainer to perform in post-apartheid South Africa.
Graduating from Phoenix College was a commitment Cece made to her grandmother; we're proud to have Cecilia "Cece" Peniston, an alumna of Phoenix College, speak to this year's graduating class. Tonight's graduates embody Cece's personal philosophy to do whatever it takes to make their dreams come true!
This year’s commencement theme is “I Made it Happen at Phoenix College.” We will be conferring over 1,100 degrees and 400 certificates.
The Commencement will be held on May 10, 2019, at the Grand Canyon University Arena, 3300 W. Camelback Road beginning at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. for both graduates and guests. Free tickets will be required for guests attending the ceremony. No guest will be allowed into the Arena without a ticket.
