Course Placement Tests

All students who are taking their first college-level English, reading, or mathematics course must complete placement testing before they can register. Scores are used by you and an advisor or counselor to help you decide which courses to take.

New students are required to complete placement testing in all three subject areas. Please allow 2.5 hours to complete the entire series. Individual sections of the test may be re-tested separately.

Course Placement Testing

The Maricopa Community Colleges use Placement Testing (ACCUPLACER or CELSA) to assist students and advisors in determining initial course placement in English, Reading and Mathematics. 

GED

The General Education Development test is for individuals who do not have a high school diploma and are seeking to earn a high school equivalency diploma.

Proctored Testing

Students attending other colleges or universities may request to have a test proctored here with proper protocol and scheduling.

FAQ | Testing Locations
The Nursing Program Entrance Exam is required for students applying to the Maricopa Community Colleges District Nursing Programs. The fee is $37.00*. The test takes an average of 4 hours to complete (it is not timed). You must receive a minimum of 75% on the Math and 85% on the English Language Composite results in order to be considered a passing grade. You must wait 60 days to re-test if you do not pass. You are allowed three (3) tests in one year. Testing is offered on a walk-in basis Monday–Thurs 8:00 AM–11:00 AM.

Note: The Success Center at Phoenix College offers a two-session workshop to help aspiring nursing students prepare to take the HESI-A2 assessment exam. Contact the Success Center to see when these workshops are available.

Academic Misconduct

You must adhere to MCCCD Academic Misconduct (AR 2.3.11) regulations that prohibit cheating. Cheating includes, but is not limited to, the use of unauthorized assistance in taking tests. If you are suspected of academic misconduct your exam may be voided. The matter will be referred to your faculty chair for further review, and if applicable, disciplinary action.

Notice: If you are disruptive or rude, engage in inappropriate behavior and/or language, observed cheating, you will be escorted out of the testing room. Such inappropriate conduct is grounds for dismissal and/or cancellation of your test scores. Also, all non-essential test items will be placed in a locker. You must turn in all scratch paper before leaving the testing room.


Valid ID

Valid photo ID is required at the time of testing. You MUST test under your Legal Name. You are not eligible to test if the First and Last Name(s) on your photo ID does not match exactly the First and Last Name(s) in your Student Account.


 

NCTA has established standards and guidelines for testing centers and testing personnel. A list of test administrators who have endorsed these standards may be found on this website.

NCTA supports distance learning by providing this free web-based referral service. The CCTC web page contains a listing of testing centers across the country and abroad that are willing to provide proctoring services to students away from their campuses.
