GED Test in English and Spanish
GED Appointments at Phoenix College for NEW testers are full. The test is made up of the five sub-tests outlined below. Most questions on the GED are multiple choice but Part II of the Writing Skills Test requires you to write an essay. The questions cover a wide range of subjects:
- Language Arts, Writing Skills Total time 2 hours (120 minutes)
- Part I (50 questions, 75 minutes)
- Part II (written essay on assigned topic, 45 minutes)
- Social Studies (50 questions, 70 minutes)
- Science (50 questions, 80 minutes)
- Language Arts, Reading (40 questions, 65 minutes)
- Mathematics, Part I (25 questions, 45 minutes): Calculator is permitted and provided by GED Testing Center.
Mathematics, Part II (25 questions, 45 minutes): No Calculator allowed.
The GED Test is available in Spanish. However, requirements differ slightly from the English version. For bilingual assistance and special instructions, call 602-285-7844 and ask for Susan Baca.

The retest fee is $15.00 per subject that you did not pass. Cashiers accept money orders, debit and credit cards. Cash is also accepted.
There are several aids available to prepare for the testing:
- GED Handbook - available at most major bookstores for approximately $30.00 and on loan through the public libraries.

College Entrance Requirements
Every college and university has different entrance requirements. Verify the specific requirements for admission at the college you plan to attend. Most community colleges accept the minimum passing standard score of 450. Arizona State University (ASU) requires a standard score of 500 for admission.
The diploma is mailed to your home address by the Arizona Department of Education.
We cannot give information over the phone concerning test applicants or test scores. You can come in with a photo ID Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8:00am until 6:00pm to get a copy of your unofficial test scores.
Scoring and Retesting
You can use your personal access code to verify your GED test score results via a web site www.gedtest.org. Test results or ACCESS Codes are not given over the phone.
The number of correct answers you receive on each test is converted to a standard score. In order to pass, all individual subject standard scores must be 410 or higher. In addition, the five sub-test scores must add up to 2250 points, for an average of 450 or higher. If either of these criteria is not met, then retesting is necessary. You may begin retesting in one or more subject areas 30 days from the completion date of your original testing series.

Notice: If you are disruptive or rude, engage in inappropriate behavior and/or language, observed cheating, you will be escorted out of the testing room. Such inappropriate conduct is grounds for dismissal and/or cancellation of your test scores. Also, all non-essential test items will be placed in a locker. The GED damaged book fee is $200. Therefore, if it is determined by the GED Room Examiner that an examinee disfigured, wrote-in, torn-out and/or damaged the GED book in any way, a $200 damaged book fee will be assessed to the examinee in order to replace the test battery. This fine must be paid before testing can resume and/or tests can be scored and results published.
