Clean Energy Management

The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Clean Energy Management is designed to provide students with a broad range of knowledge in topics such as energy sources and energy management techniques, knowledge of basic electrical calculation, blueprint reading, and reporting processes. Students will also explore professional development and career opportunities with the clean energy industry and obtain OSHA-10 Certification.

Maricopa Community College students and interns with the Arizona Sustainability Alliance: Arizona Clean Energy Workforce Development Program may be admitted into this program. Courses in this CCL may be taught as dual-enrollment courses at Phoenix Union High Schools, and as regular college courses at Phoenix College.

What You'll Learn

This pathway map will help you gain the expertise needed to:

  1. Interpret electrical blueprints (residential and small commercial) per code.
  2. Employ technology and software to create and interpret energy management reports.
  3. Collect, analyze, and report energy usage data to identify, recommend, and facilitate energy saving strategies.
  4. Determine professional resume building techniques, interview best practices, and networking skills specific to the clean energy industry.
  5. Apply professional and ethical practices.
  6. Utilize electrical formulas and calculations to measure energy consumption.
  7. Use effective oral, written, and visual business communication skills.
  8. Practice a variety of business communications styles.
  9. Demonstrate compliance with procedures necessary to ensure a safe and healthy work environment (OSHA-10 Certification).
  10. Articulate the differences between electric power generation, transmission and distribution.

Course Sequence by Term

The following is the suggested course sequence by term. Please keep in mind:

  • The course sequence is laid out by suggested term and may be affected when students enter the program at different times of the year.
  • Initial course placement is determined by current district placement measures and/or completion of 100-200 level course and/or program requirements.
  • Degree and transfer seeking students may be required to successfully complete a MCCCD First Year Experience Course (FYE) within the first two semesters at a MCCCD College. Courses include FYE101 and FYE103. Course offerings will vary by college. See an academic, program, or faculty advisor for details.
