Diane H. Thomas Scholarship for Phoenix College Graduates

The Diane H. Thomas Scholarship for Phoenix College graduates is a $10,000 scholarship for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university. During her long and distinguished career, Ms. Thomas worked as a commercial photographer, television personality, small business owner, arbiter for the Better Business Bureau, author, freelance writer, photojournalist and college instructor. She authored and published nearly a dozen books and wrote many more articles which appeared in publications ranging from The New York Times, McCall's and Better Homes & Gardens to Real West and Old Cars magazine. Her legacy includes endowed scholarships at Phoenix College and Glendale Community College.

While applying for this scholarship, please prepare first by reading the introduction and having all your documents prepared ahead of time. This is a multi-part form. Scholarship Criteria:

  • Graduating Phoenix College student in 2020
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0
  • Demonstrates financial need through details provided in the application
  • Preparing to transfer to a four-year college or university in Fall of 2020

Application instructions:

Answer every question that applies. Incomplete applications will not be considered. If something does not apply to you, respond by indicating "N/A" when possible.

Attach the following items:

  • Personal statement, no more than two pages (typed, double-spaced). Describe your financial need and how the scholarship will help you meet college expenses, your academic and career goals, and your extracurricular activities (both on and off campus).
  • A 500-700 word essay (typed, double-spaced) based on the following prompt: What type of problems or challenges did you encounter while working towards your academic goals? What role did Phoenix College or other entities play in assisting you to overcome obstacles?

Submit a copy of your unofficial transcripts through Email: alumni@phoenixcollege.edu.

Deadline to submit application: April 20th, 2020 by 5 p.m. Late applications will not be considered.
