The Voice of
Roanna Shebala

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, enjoy a Conversation with the renowned Diné poet, storyteller and performer.

THE NATIVE EXPERIENCE:
REFRAMED FOR THE MASSES

The poetry, and presence, of Roanna Shebala will impress you.  She's performed for audiences across the country, often in areas where Native American voices are unheard.  Shebala's work addresses the appropriation of her people's culture, and reclaims identity that has been distorted by the editors of history.

ABOUT ROANNA SHEBALA

Shebala, who is informally known as Rowie, is a long-time participant in Spoken word, where she has been on four National Slam poetry teams.  She's performed at New York's Lincoln Center in La Casita Out Doors.  She's also been published in zines such as Banshee Press, and Annik Press Urban Indian.
