Early Childhood Oral Health Promotion
This course will provide dental and dental hygiene professionals, as well as other healthcare professionals, with information to enable them to provide practical and effective advice to parents and other healthcare providers about preventing oral diseases in infants and young children. No Pre-requisites. This is a self-study course and registered students will have until December 6, 2019, to complete this course. Four (4) hours of CEUs earned upon completion of the course.

Infection Control & Infectious Diseases

Coronal Polishing Review for Practicing Dental Assistants
This course is designed to prepare practicing dental assistants for the Arizona Coronal Polishing Certification Examination. Participants will define oral prophylaxis and explain the rationale for coronal polishing, describe the appearance and formation of various dental deposits, know how to clinically apply the appropriate coronal polishing technique and adjunct methods for plaque and stain removal, and identify the characteristics of polishing agents and their appropriate application. This is a self-study course and registered students will have until December 6, 2019, to complete this course. Prerequisites: Permission of Program Director. Completion earns four (4) CEU's

To perform coronal polishing procedures in the state of Arizona under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, a dental assistant must hold an Arizona Coronal Polishing Certificate. To qualify, one must:
1. Pass DANB's Coronal Polish exam found in the "Coronal Polish Exam for Arizona Residents" (CPEAR) [Form A] application packet (administered by DANB), AND
2. Submit an Arizona Coronal Polishing Clinical Skills Affidavit [Form B] completed by a licensed dentist or coronal polishing educator/course instructor, AND
3. Receive the Arizona Coronal Polishing Certificate, sent upon successful completion of the DANB Coronal Polish exam and submission of the Arizona Coronal Polishing Clinical Skills Affidavit to DANB

Oral Radiography Review for Dental Assistants
This course meets once a weeknight for eight weeks and may be taken by those preparing to become certified to expose oral radiographs in the state of Arizona. The lecture portion may be taken separately as a review, or those who need instructions in learning how to expose and process radiographs can take the entire program.
Phoenix College utilizes digital radiography. ScanX phosphor plates will be used in the lab. Interproximal and periapical techniques will be taught in the lab.

3) Apply to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners Dental Assistant Radiography Certification and receive an Arizona Radiologic Proficiency Certificate

Local Anesthesia Lecture and Lab for Dental Hygienists
Phoenix College Dental Department offers a fall and spring semester course for those interested in applying for an Anesthesia Certificate in Arizona, and to prepare for the WREB Anesthesia written and clinical exams.
DHE227 Dental Anesthesia Lecture/Lab a full semester course. It requires a minimum of 80 hours of online, self-study work, and meets from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm daily for 3-day clinic lab session prior to the WREB Anesthesia Exam.
Students enrolling in the 2019 Fall Local Anesthesia course MUST be registered no later than Monday, August 12, 2019, when the online self-study begins. This date is firm. Students will need to be comfortable with online instruction and testing technology, must be self-directed and commit to 6-8 hours of study time per week to read the textbook, complete all activities and the online exams.

Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary
Designed to develop knowledge and skills in preparation for the Arizona Expanded Functions-Restorative Exam. Participants will perform expanded function restorative procedures including but not limited to amalgam, occlusion considerations, and caries prevention in a pre-clinical environment as defined by ARS 32-1291.01. Open to certified and or licensed practicing dental assistants and dental hygienists. Prerequisites: Current certification or licensure. Completion earns (96) CEU's.
There are two class sections in which to register. These are special permission classes, and you will be granted authorization to complete registration once an Expanded Function Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Program interest form, student admission is completed in the enrollment center, and meet in-person or by conference call to discuss the EFDA program at Phoenix College.

Dental Laser Education
This lecture and hands-on training is a very comprehensive soft-tissue laser training with an emphasis on diode-assisted periodontal therapies and dental hygiene protocols. Meets the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners emerging technology requirements as specified in ARS 32-1281 (C)(2) and 32-1201 (17)(18). Open to current dental professionals. Requires class permission through the Center for Continuing Dental Education department for enrollment. Eight (8) hours of CEUs earned upon completion of course.
