Early Childhood Education and Administration

Students who want to make a difference by teaching young children, directing a child care program, starting a child care business, or working in a human service agency will find excellent opportunities within the Child & Family Studies program. In addition to a variety of degree and certificate programs designed to set students on a career path, students already employed as early childhood professionals can enhance their career through the flexible Child Development Associate (CDA) Pathway.

Phoenix College offers two pathways for those interested in Child & Family Studies. The Early Childhood Education & Administration program is designed for those interested in teaching young children. The Family Development program is designed to meet the needs of persons interested in careers working with families in programs, agencies, organizations that provide services to families.

Education & Training

The training and qualifications required of preschool teachers vary widely. Each state has its own licensing requirements that regulate caregiver training. These requirements range from a high school diploma and a national Child Development Associate (CDA) credential to community college courses or a college degree in child development or early childhood education.
