Phoenix College's Mariachi Ensemble
Mariachi Osos del Valle is Phoenix College’s – and the Maricopa County Community College District’s – first and only mariachi ensemble, performing traditional and contemporary mariachi music as well as other traditional music from Mexico and Latin America.
The ensemble performs annually for audiences locally and regionally, and they are taking their skills and presentation to the next level by performing at competitions and festivals, like the International Mariachi Festival, in Tucson, Arizona. Mariachi is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, and has evolved into an international phenomenon.
Many aspects of performing in a musical ensemble are costly, which can limit access to students who may wish to join the ensemble, but who may not have the financial resources to purchase their own instruments and Mariachi attire.
Phoenix College is seeking support for the Mariachi Osos del Valle Ensemble, so that students may fully experience the power of music and education by joining Mariachi Osos del Valle, and participating in annual competitions and festivals.
