Instructional Technology

The Center for Teaching and Learning offers instructional technology learning opportunities, resources and consultation. Instructional technology is about integrating the right tool to complement your teaching and learning objectives. Want to offer students choice in demonstrating their knowledge, encourage collaborative learning or engage students in content longer? These are some of the areas Instructional Technology can offer guidance.

More than trends, gimmicks or the hype surrounding consumer-based technologies, instructional technology is about “the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management and evaluation of processes and resources for learning” (AECT, Association for Education Communications and Technology). Simply stated, it is about how technology can support, complement and maximize student success.

We can help you with:

  • Development of presentations using standard and alternative presentation systems
  • Selection of technology solutions for assessment
  • Guidance on tools that facilitate collaborative and active learning
  • Using student devices (BYOD) for real-time responses to guide instruction
  • Development of Open Educational Resources
  • Utilizing the feature set of Canvas LMS
  • Finding technology to support learning objectives
  • Integrating instructional technology into curriculum
  • Step-by-step instructions for you and students for using technology
  • Support in navigating data privacy and security concerns
  • Design for accessible online materials and accommodations for technology tools

What does this look like? Instructional Technology consultation provides both the mechanics or how-to’s of using a tool AND the best practices (pedagogy) for using that tool in alignment with learning objectives.
