Sweatpant Worthy Careers: 10 Side Gig Careers to Work from Home

Maricopa ITI Infographic 2020As the country grapples with newfound free time beyond anything we’ve known before, students are figuring out how to create an income from what may have only been a side hustle or a distant dream. And now more than ever, colleges’ virtual programs are solid options for a boost in income. Phoenix College (PC) is changing the landscape for hundreds of students during this unprecedented time.

“Online programming has always been an important, flexible option for many of our students,” says Phoenix College President, Dr. Larry Johnson. “Now, we are trying to make sure everyone knows their options. Not only are these careers sustainable, but they are also critical to the world right now.”

Since timeliness is of the utmost importance, PC’s Certificate programs require fewer hours than a regular degree and are targeted to specific skills. This can either jump-start a new career or boost existing expertise. For example, someone with a marketing degree has the ability to add to their qualifications with a social media marketing certificate. Or, an individual may choose to look into becoming their own boss by earning a certificate in Small Business Start-up.

There are 10 different programs to consider taking while life is on lock-down. Computer-based careers are always in high demand, but this is especially true now. So anything that may have previously been a side hustle or a future career interest is suddenly now very obtainable. Some programs worth considering to improve skills and hireability during these trying times are graphic design, photography, web design, creative writing, and social media marketing, among others.

“Our goal in these programs is to create a clear link among careers as they all feed into each other,” said Maria Reyes, Dean of Industry & Public Service. “No one works in a vacuum in the real world, so at PC, we create functional understanding – weaving the skills into multiple programs.”

PC has dozens of online programs, degrees and courses to revive or revamp careers. Those interesting in learning more should visit:
