Phoenix College offers a Healthcare Short Course Program designed for rapid career preparation.  The Patient Care Technician program is an opportunity for current professionals to refresh, or expand, their skills.  



Classes are forming now.

Prerequisite: The program requires a High School Diploma, or Equivalency.  

Complete the Patient Care Technician Program in 120 Course Hours.  Get Real-World Experience.

Patient Care Technician 120-Hour Course Program

Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) work in physician offices, clinics, hospitals, rehabilitation centers; as well as long term care and assisted living facilities.  Professionals service complex patient care issues, including:

  • Rehabilitation Services
  • Diagnostic Tests
  • Basic Bedside Care
  • Administering the Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Phlebotomy, and the Collection of Laboratory Specimens



 

Learn the Essentials:

Theory & Hands-On Training

The PCT Course consists of both lab and classroom training. 

Labs require students to practice, and demonstrate, baseline nursing skills, as well as testing-related competencies, including EKGs and Phlebotomy.  Lectures emphasize medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, as well as miscellaneous patient care concepts, such as:

  • HIPAA
  • Vital Signs
  • Patient Care
  • Personal Hygiene
  • Grooming & Aseptic Technique

 

Work Based Experience

Work Based Experience offers invaluable real world training.  Patient Care Technician students are eligible to participate in a 40-hour clinical externship.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Course is not a Nurse Assisting (NA) Course.

The scope of practice of the Patient Care Technician and the Nurse Assistant differs.

As such, the PCT course does not qualify for the Nursing Program Application Requirement.

Complete the Pharmacy Technician Program in 72 Course Hours

Pharmacy Technician  72-Hour Course Program

Pharmacy Technicians dispense, pack, and label medications before they're reviewed by a pharmacist, and ultimately, transferred to patients. 

Technicians are required in many settings, ranging from mail order pharmacies to hospitals, and even the military.  This requires them to apply knowledge across many environments, and also master:

  • Pharmacy Medical Terminology
  • Calculations and Measurements
  • Reading & Interpreting Prescriptions
  • Defining Drugs, by Generic & Brand Names

 

Comprehensive & Practical Training

Taught through lab and classroom settings, the Pharmacy Technician Program will prepare you for exams required to enter the field.

The curriculum is also valuable for existing healthcare professionals who'd like to expand skill sets; or as career exploration, for students considering 4-year Pharmacy Programs at other colleges.  Topics include:
