Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Dual Enrollment Career & Technical Education (CTE) Pathways lets high school students earn college credit in career‑focused courses — such as healthcare, IT, business, culinary arts, and trades — while still in high school.
Students who are enrolled in designated CTE classes at their high school and meet college admission/course placement requirements are eligible to participate.
Tuition is the same per‑credit rate as other Dual Enrollment courses ($97 per credit hour plus fees). Some schools or grants may help cover costs. Please see our Tuition Assistance page on our district website.
Yes — credits earned in CTE Pathways stack into Maricopa Community College certificates and degrees, and many transfer to universities.
Many CTE certificates are short‑term (two semesters or less), so completion during or soon after high school is possible. Connect with the CTE Coordinator to see if you are eligible.
Traditional Dual Enrollment lets high school students take general education college courses (like English, math, or humanities) for both high school and college credit. Dual Enrollment CTE Pathways focuses on career‑specific courses in programs such as healthcare, IT, business, culinary arts, and trades. These courses apply directly toward industry‑recognized certificates and career pathways at Phoenix College.
AP credit depends on one exam score, while Dual Enrollment CTE Pathways awards credit for coursework completed throughout the year. Concurrent Enrollment requires attending college classes outside the high school day, while CTE Dual Enrollment happens during regular school hours.
