EDU 222 Introduction to the Exceptional Learner
Overview of the exceptional learner, one who differs from the average or normal, with emphasis on factors relating to current practices, identification, characteristics, and educational adaptations. Issues related to mildly disabled, severely disabled, emotionally and behaviorally disordered, mentally retarded, and gifted students. Includes school-based practicum. Prerequisites: None. Requires minimum of 15 hours of field experience.
EDU 230 Cultural Diversity in Education
Examination of the relationship of cultural values to the formation of the child's self-concept and learning styles. Examination of the role of prejudice, stereotyping and cultural incompatibilities in education. Emphasis on preparing future teachers to offer an equal educational opportunity to children of all cultural groups. Prerequisites: None.

Teaching and Learning in the Community College
The history, functions, organization and current issues in the community/junior college with emphasis on the Arizona community colleges. Includes focus on the design and practice of effective community college teaching and learning with special emphasis on the Maricopa County Community College District. Prerequisites: None.

EDU 282 Volunteerism for Education: A Service Learning Experience (Modules AA - AC)
Service-learning field experience within educational systems, citizen advocacy groups, and human service organizations/agency. May be repeated for a total of six (6) EDU282 credit hours; may not repeat specific agency assignment for more than three (3) credit hours. Offered as credit (P) or no credit (Z) basis. Standard grading available according to procedures outlined in catalog. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor.
EDU 291 Children's Literature
Review of folk and modern literature from a variety of world cultures, including application of literary criteria to folk and modern literature for children. Prerequisites: None.

Explore the art and origin of storytelling. Provide a variety of storytelling techniques, styles and exercises to enhance the delivery of telling stories. Assist in the integration and application of storytelling to the learning environment in the classroom. Prerequisites: None.
