Tutoring Positions

Tutors make a huge difference in students’ lives by guiding their path towards success.  Learning Commons tutors provide academic assistance, empower students in learning how to learn, and help students successfully navigate college and their coursework.

Prospective tutors in any subject area are encouraged to apply, though we primarily hire Math, Science, and Writing.  Tutors must have received a grade of A or B in subject(s) applying to tutor. We hire both peer and professional tutors for up to 20 hours per week.  (Tutors wishing to work 20-24 hours per week must contribute to the Arizona State Retirement System.)  All tutors are required to engage in ongoing training that meets the standards set by the College Reading and Learning Association, an international organization of learning-assistance professionals. CRLA certifies programs to in turn train and certify tutors.

Interested applicants must submit the Learning Commons application and provide applicable documentation.

  1. Learning Commons Part-Time Application
  2. Faculty Recommendation Form (for peer tutors only)
  3. Transcripts (all applicants)
  4. Writing sample (for Writing Tutor applicants only)

Check-in Staff Positions

As the primary point of contact between our students and our tutors, check-in staff members serve a valuable role at the Learning Commons.  Check-in staff provide consistent, quality customer service to students and staff; create and maintain a welcoming environment; promote academic assistance at Phoenix College; and cooperate effectively as part of the learning commons team.

Check-in staff applicants are encouraged to apply through PC's Federal Work Study program. If you do not qualify for the Federal Work Study program, please fill out the Learning Commons Part-Time Application.
